Caring for your Salty Hippo goods

  • Cotton: Wash in cold water, these fabrics are not pre-shrunk
  • Hemmed Napkins: Wash in cold water, these fabrics are not pre-shrunk
  • Frayed Canvas Napkins: These are washed and ironed to start the fray process for you. For the first few washes, have your scissors handy, they will continue to fray until they hit the sewn "fray stop" line (about a quarter inch from the edge).

Love is in the details

You'll find unique textures in the fabric—heavier in some places, lighter in others.
During the hand-printing process, I apply pressure to each individual piece, one by one. This means the ink is heavier or lighter throughout the fabric and, sometimes, you can feel a raised texture. I use water soluble inks that are environmentally friendly and oh-so-soft. These details are simply part of the charm you won't find in mass produced items.

I haven't had anything fade to date, but can not guarantee against it completely.
Rest assured that all prints are heat set according to manufacturer specs. Usually this means sitting under heat for 3 minutes at a time and this is done to ensure the longevity of your fabric. Metallics have a slight tendency to show some wear from washing, but you love your faded blue jeans for a reason, right?

Fat quarters are 18" x 22"...ish
The print area itself is 18” x 22” but the entire piece of fabric itself is usually a bit larger. The blank edges you’ll see around the print area allow me to get a clean print with room for cutting. Additionally, sometimes bolts are shorter, which means there can be variation in the exact sizing of the fat quarter.

From my camera to your computer screen and into your hands
Color “matching” is extremely difficult and there are a lot of opportunities for color representation to shift as it’s translated from real life to your computer screen. I've done my best to represent the true color of each colorway, so you aren't surprised when your order arrives. As with any fabric purchase, you just never know until you hold it in your hands.
